Barking Good Times Event
MGCKC sponsors Barking Good Times to provide and encourage dog activities, conformation matches, testing for Canine Good Citizen titles, and enjoy time with our pets.
Paws Under The Oaks
MGCKC hosts an annual event called Paws Under the Oaks. During this times we encourage responsible dog ownership, hold a Meet the Breed where the public can come out and learn more about breeds that they might be interested in, and exhibitions of different activities you can participate in with your dog and test for the Canine Good Citizens title.
MGCKC DONATES KEVLAR VEST TO HANCOCK COUNTY K-9 UNIT
The Mississippi Gulf Coast Kennel Club donated funds to purchase a Kevlar protection vest for the Harrison County K=9 Unit. On January 3, 2017, at our club meeting, we were introduced to Hancock County Deputy Sheriff Collin Freeman and his beautiful drug detection Belgium Malinois, Zia. This is the dog for which the Club purchased the Kevlar protection vest! The Deputy gave us a demonstration of her detection abilities (even taking her outside so she couldn't see and therefore, "cheat"!) She performed brilliantly and was given her favorite reward: her tennis ball.
If I Ran the Dog Show Book Placement
The NAIA (National Animal Interest Alliance) believes that hands-on experience with animals is one of the greatest ways of fostering a child’s sense of responsibility and empathy, and of laying the groundwork for a realistic view of animals and our connection with them. Groups like 4-H have long provided youth with hands-on experience in areas such as agriculture — but when it comes to the world of purebred dogs and dog shows, there has been virtually no concerted effort to nudge forth the next generation.
But that doesn’t mean we can’t start now…
In conjunction with the NAIA, the Mississippi Gulf Coast Kennel Club purchased and donated 100 of the If I Ran the Dog Show books to Public Libraries and Elementary Schools throughout the South Mississippi Area.

Annual Meet the Breed
We host an annual event, in conjunction with AKC Kennel Clubs throughout the US, called "Meet the Breed", where the public can come, visit and interact with the dogs and see breeds that they might not be familiar with.
Training you to have a well behaved, social dog
At MGCKC we believe that training you to have a well behaved, well socialized dog is one of our primary missions as a club. We hold quarterly beginner obedience training classes to get you and your pet off on the right foot. We will also be offering Pre-Novice classes for those who want to go further and begin AKC obedience competition and CGC (Canine Good Citizen) Testing.
